World Cruise - Day 50 - Mar 2 - Cairns, Australia/Great Barrier Reef, Part 2

I had to split this posting into two parts due to the file limitations I have encountered at Blogger and with FeedBurner e-mails, so here is part 2:
Our dive master picked up a sea cucumber and handed it to us to hold  My pic with it.  Spiny on the top, sticky on the underside, kinda like a big caterpillar, just underwater.
Sea cucumber on the ocean floor.
White coral.
Brian coral.

Dan went for an introductory dive (pics later) and also went snorkeling.
Dan posing during a snorkel dive.
Ann exploring one of the sea clams.
This isn’t a great pic, but it’s the only one where I was able to get this fish.
Note the fish bottom of the pic, blends in with the background.
Love the striping on this fish.
More brain coral.
I was tempted to crop this photo, since I love the fish at the bottom, but it shows how difficult it can be to get a fish in the center of the frame.  Just point and hope the fish you want is somewhere in the frame.
Another photo of a fish I wanted to get, not the greatest pic, though.  It’s actually swimming to the left, not the right (that coloring is on its tail, not its mouth).
Krissie and Dan getting ready for their introductory dive.
Krissie and Dan giving the OK signal (or “hang loose” in Hawaiian)
Dan’s first time breathing underwater.
Krissie as she makes her way down underwater with Pat, the instructor (who stayed with her the whole time).
Dan was off with his underwater camera, that was the last I saw of him.
Krissie going down deeper with Pat.
Pat was very good at showing Krissie all of the different things you could get up close.
Pat showing Krissie one of the sea clams.
Krissie’s reaction as the sea clam closed.
Krissie near the reef.
Another shot of one of the sea clams.  I just love the coloring inside.
Krissie after we are back onboard with her diver certificate of completion.  Note some of her watercolors and her Van Gogh-style painting in the background.
We had a delightful dinner back onboard with Chuck and Lorraine, then went to the show.  Martin Lass is a classically trained violinist who plays classical, gypsy and pop music on the violin:
Tomorrow is sea day #1 of 5 on our way to Guam.

  1. Wow, those were some great pics. Obviously from 2 different cameras, but maybe you said that in the other post. I was going to look up some of the fish you liked (the yellow one I think was an anglefish of some type), but then figured no one really cares! I know what you mean about trying to get fish in the frame, and then close enough that when cropped it's still somewhat in focus.
On to the next post of pics! I'm loving it. :-)
