World Cruise - Day 30 - Feb 11 - At Sea

Today is the day that never happened onboard this ship.  The clocks moved from 11:59p Fri Feb 10 to 12:00a Sun Feb 12.  We skipped Saturday entirely.
Let us know if anything significant happened on Feb 11 in your part of the world, since we missed it.
Things I wonder about:
If your birthday is Feb 11, do you wait until next year to celebrate it?  Or does it throw off the time continuum completely and you will never get that year older?
Does the automatic tipping onboard charge your account for tipping on Feb 11?
Did I sleep 8 hours last night?  Or 32?
Is this really a 107 day cruise?  Or 106? (in answering this, keep in mind that it is 107 days if you include Feb 11, 106 if you do not include it; but there are 18 days where we will be adding an hour to the clock)
If a bartender worked the late shift last night from 6p-2a, would the time clock system be smart enough to credit them with 8 hours work vs. 32?
Tomorrow (if you want to call it that, since it’s already tomorrow today) is a sea day.  We arrive in Fiji on Monday (which is technically the real tomorrow?).

  1. Samoa used to be 21 hours behind 'Sydney' [when on the eastern side of the international date line]but - now - with the change to the western side, late Dec 2011) it is now 3 hours ahead. Australia and New Zealand are Samoa's biggest trading partners but, before making the change, were losing out on 2 working days a week.

  2. Funny date line trivia ... Loved that. :-) And, SK, you always have some good info to add to this blog! Your comment about losing out on 2 working days a week is unbelievable! No wonder they changed to the "other side". And, how does a country do that anyhow??? I can understand a State changing to the next time zone, but that's only 1 hours. How do you change and have it make a difference of, what, would that be 27 hours? I'm glad I don't have to figure that out. heehee

  3. How? As the clock struck midnight last year, on Thurs 29 Dec, 2011, 'Samoa' was instantly transported 24 hours ahead to Sat. 31 Dec. All those scheduled to work on the skipped Friday were (by Government decree) given a full day's pay. Samoa will now be the first place of 'New Year' celebrations in the world, rather than the last.
