World Cruise - Day 48 - Feb 29 - At Sea

Happy Leap Year!  Here is my sunrise photo for the day:
Krissie and I went to Zumba this morning, then I went to listen to Ann Burgess, the naturalist onboard talking about Great Barrier Reef:
We did OK at trivia this morning, we got 16 out of 20, winning team had 17 out of 20.  Some of the more interesting questions: Which woman was known as Saint of the Gutters?  Mother Theresa.  Zena Garazin (not sure if I’m spelling that correctly) is associate with what sport?  Tennis.  Vulcan is the god of metalwork and ____?  Fire.  A major work by a composer is known in Latin as an Magnum _____?  Opus.  What are the two official languages of Cyprus?  Greek and Turkish.  Hans Wilsdorf created which watch company in 1908?  Rolex.  Agouti is what kind of animal?  Rodent.  What is the name for a piece of plastic for strumming a guitar?  Plectrum (we said pic).  Joan of Arc was also known as the Maid of _____?  Orleans.  Which Beatles movie in 1964 featured the song If I FellHard Day’s Night (we put Help).  Which Jackson sibling put out an album titled Control?  Janet.  In the cornea of the human eye there are how many distinguishable layers?  5 (we put 3).  What year was NATO formed?  1949 (we put 1946).
Lunch buffet today was Italian Trattoria.  I like how they have different themes each day in the buffet at lunch to mix things up a bit.  Krissie still takes a huge salad, no matter what the theme.  Some people onboard refer to her as “The Salad Lady.”  Good thing to be known for.
Here is Krissie’s latest painting:
We lost again at trivia with 16 out of 20 (three teams tied at 18).  Who was the original lead singer of Black Sabbath?  Ozzy Osbourne.  What high top sneakers are known as Chuck Taylors?  Converse.  Who is the brother of Shirley MacLean who won an academy award for directing Reds?  Warren Beatty.  What is the record label owned by Madonna?  (I don’t remember the answer, but it’s not Virgin, we had no idea and that’s what we put down).  The ship Hispaniola was in what Robert Lewis Stevenson novel?  Treasure Island.  What former boxer won a Grammy in 2001?  Oscar de la Hoya (we put George Forman).  Who was the little boy adopted by Mr. Peabody in the Bullwinkle cartoon series?  Sherman (we put Timmy).  What is the word in opera that is translated from Italian for first lady?  Prima Donna (we put diva).  What Olympic sport is played with a shuttlecock?  Badminton.
Tonight is formal night, so another opportunity to get dressed to the nines.  We have nine formal nights on our 107-day voyage, so about one every 12 days or so.
I snapped this sunset pic on the way to the show this evening:
The entertainment tonight was The Pacific Princess Singers & Dancers in Words & Music:
They did a really great job with it, especially since it was the first time they performed it in front of an audience.
They did a medley of songs from different musicals, including several from Les Miserables.

We played Movie Themes Music Trivia tonight with David Crathorne in the Casino Lounge.  We won with a total of 29 out of 40.  There isn’t any way to reproduce the actual questions here on the blog, since it consists of David playing a song, you have to name both the song and the movie for which it was the theme.  Some of the songs were Baby Elephant Walk from Hatari, The Look of Love from Casino Royale (we didn’t get the movie, although we knew it was a James Bond movie), Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong from Officer and a Gentleman, Theme from Terms of Endearment, The Way We Were from The Way We Were, Stepping Out with my Baby from Easter Parade, Raiders March (we put Theme from) from Raiders of the Lost Ark (the “D D D D” song…), Theme from On Golden Pond, Do You Know from Mahogany and Exodus from Exodus.  I think we may be undefeated in the evening music trivia, we’ve won every time we’ve played.  Everyone has their category.
Tomorrow is sea day #3 of 3 on our way to Cairns, Australia on Friday.

  1. Great painting once again, Krissie! Way to go on music trivia. I'm so anxious to see pics of underwater fish at the Great Barrier Reef! I know you can dive and hold your breath a long time. I'm hoping there will be tons of beautiful things to see snorkeling. Make sure to 'share' pics with divers, especially if someone brought along a really good underwater camera, and is a good underwater photographer! Also would have to be an extremely good diver to get good pics. That's asking a lot, I know!
