More pics from our outing yesterday in the desert. This photo looks like there are statues on top of the building, but those are three actual camels walking over a sand dune that is about the same height as the roof:
Dan and I tried sandboarding. Dan was pretty good at it:
First time I’ve ever had a snowboard in my feet. A sandboard is the exact same as a snowboard, just slower:
I wasn’t able to go that fast, I think when I got to this part of the hill I started sinking into the sand a bit:
This is where old snowboard go to retire:
At the entrance to the Bedouin camp there was a guy with a falcon:
Krissie and I decided to take a camel ride, so you’re going to again see a sequence of burst shots both getting on and off the camel. Krissie wanted to pet the camel, but you really do have to watch out for spitting…
…which is why they wear that muzzle:
The camel gets up to its knees in the front…
…then gets up on its hind legs…
…then stands all the way up:
Yes, we did it without falling off:
Our camel ride in the desert:
Krissie wanted to put her feet forward so that she could feel the camel’s fur. I wanted to ride backward:
We had a lot of fun, even though it was a pretty short ride:
I told Krissie I wanted to kiss her backward:
And there was our kiss:
Krissie reminded me later that we’re not really supposed to kiss or show any signs of affection in Arab countries. We could have been put in jail?
Then it was the get down sequence. You would think it’s the opposite of the get up sequence, but it’s not.
Hold on tight!
I thought the rear legs were coming down first, so I was leaning back.
Then the front legs started going down. I’ll let the rest of the sequence speak for itself, but it was like a mechanical bull ride for me (albeit a brief one):
They had a guy who did sand art at the Bedouin camp:
Off to the side is where the drivers and Bedouins were having their tea:
They were playing two board games, didn’t recognize either one:
This one the guy top left is pushing the green ring and trying to knock the small disc into the hole in the corner:
They were also giving henna tattoos:
Randy, Lois, Shirley, and Kay from the ship enjoying their meal at the Bedouin camp:
Krissie and Dan at our table:
Dennis got a henna tattoo on his bicep:
There was a belly dancer performing after dinner:
On our way back to the ship, we had to stop at a store to get the tires filled up again. Dennis found a Pringles ketchup flavored, won’t see that in the US:
Today is Dubai, day #2. We are doing a Bible study this morning, then we will take the shuttle into the city to walk around a bit. We may take the metro from there to look at some of the new portion of the city, although that’s not as interesting to us.
Loved the first pic, of the camels that sure looked like they were walking on that building! And, loved the camel pics in sequence of you and Krissie. Yep, you were not supposed to show affection, good thing the camel leader guy was not watching, or didn't have you arrested ... but it sure was a cute pic. :-) And, your hand up in the air on the camel dismount had the driver guy worried, looks like. I think you were being silly, but not sure. :-)

WOW, LOVE these rapid fire photos! You have some great shots and it really illustrates the incredible time you seem to be having. The camel ride looked like a blast! And I loved that mom rolled down the sand dune...I'd have done that too! I must get it from her ;)
ReplyDeleteLove you guys,
